About The Brotherhood

Our Origin

The Great Black Brotherhood was inspired by The Miseducation of the Negro, a groundbreaking work by Carter Godwin Woodson. In it Woodson argues that this mis-education perpetuates a cycle of dependency and disempowerment among Black people.

Woodson calls for a new mindset to be instilled in Black people. One that centers Black history, heritage, and self-reliance, which can Empower the Black community to shape its own destiny.

This book, coupled with the ongoing challenges faced by Black people in the United States, highlighted the urgent need for a more independent National Black organization—one that is solely focused on the empowerment and advancement of Black people.
